How comical it would be if the Pinocchio story were possible; imagine the long-nosed people who would constantly bump into each other. Human beings have the tendency to lie and some of these lies are not that obvious. With this post, I do not refer to those who openly lie rather to those whose lives are a lie. Our walk is our biggest testimony but for many of us what we recommend for others does not comply with what we do ourselves-thus our lives are a lie.
Christ emulates how we need to give our testimonies of God working in our lives; a testimony that is a reflection of God is edifying to those who hear it. Always remember that the testimony is about Him working in you, it is all about Him. As Christ addressed a crowd that wanted to stone Him, yet they claimed to be children of God, He points out to some key principles about how we give testimonies as reflections of God’s work in us. What is the effect of our walk on our testimonies?
- ACTIONS SPEAK VOLUMES
The greatest testimony we could ever give is by our actions; people respond better to actions compared to mere words. I think we get it all wrong when we interpret testifying our faith as only speaking out our beliefs; unless we live out the very principles we suggest to others, we testify in vain.
I can be very convincing in selling a product and someone might actually buy the product yet I do not use it myself because it is not the best in my opinion. The people buying the product will be moved emotionally or even intellectually by my presentation but as soon as I am out of the picture, they may become dissatisfied with the product, as they never were attracted to the product; they were attracted to me.
We live in a society where people are attracted by those testifying of Christ yet they hardly get to witness Christ at work. Our faith is not rooted because we are not compelled to live out the Word. We are emotionally charged by words but we are never pushed to pay the cost of living out our beliefs. Our testimonies only become transforming when they go beyond words into actions that show God working in our lives. As I start living out my principles, my life becomes distinctive and as people notice the change in me, I can tell them who is at work in me.
They Jews insisted that they were the children of God yet all they did was against His will. Our first testimony needs to show by us doing what pleases God. This calls for personal reflection and realizing that I am not trying to impress man but I do it for an audience of one-God. We can easily be entangled in trying to show our salvation through our words and forget to live it out; when my need to show off grows beyond my actual doing of the Word, the testimony becomes more about me and less about Him. Christ always insisted that all He did was with the aim of pleasing His Father.
Transforming testimonies are more about actions and less about words.
John 8:28-29 Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things. And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.”
- KNOWLEDGE SETS PEOPLE FREE
I need to point out the fact that many times we need to speak our faith when it comes to our testimonies. The key however is to be prepared to do so by having the Word in us. The more time we spend reading and knowing God, the better placed we are to talk about Him. It is easy to give worldly views and opinions, as this is where we are, but to tap into God’s wisdom we need to deliberately spend time seeking Him.
We can never know God exhaustively, which is a very exciting fact; no matter how many times I read the bible, He always reveals something new to me. Embracing the adventure of knowing God through His Word allows us to move from a place of mere belief to the point of love. When we fall in love we tend to speak of the person we are in love with all the time and know every detail in their lives. The same happens when we spend more time with God; we are drawn to sharing more about Him and at a point of knowledge.
Scripture says that the truth shall set us free and what better way to get those listening to our testimonies to a point of freedom other than sharing the truth with them. Knowledge of the Word gives us the platform to speak in truth and freedom. We cannot give what we do not have and unless we are constantly meditating on the Word, our speech will not be based on the Word.
Jesus Christ knew the scriptures inside out and used them all the time in His speech; in a sense He was showing that all that we need to know about life is in the Word and so, whatever counsel we give needs to be based on the Word. The more I dig into scripture the more my mind is changed. What I speak is a reflection of my mind, therefore my testimonies become more about Him and less about me when I abide in Him.
My knowledge of the Word reveals the truth in scripture to those who listen to me.
John 8:31-32 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.”
As I began, I confessed that some of our lives are a lie, I am also a work in progress. The more I dig into God’s Word, the more I find His truth. The more I walk in this truth, the more powerful my testimonies become. We are a work in progress, but we need to start the process-may we find truth and walk in it this week!

Ecclesiastes 1:16-18 I communed with my heart saying, “Look I have attained greatness and have gained more wisdom than all who were before me in Jerusalem. My heart has understood great wisdom and knowledge.” And I set my heart to know wisdom and to know madness and folly. I perceive that this also is grasping for the wind. For in much wisdom is much grief, and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.
It would not be fair to leave you with this information and let you try to change by your own wisdom and strength-it is like chasing the wind. Only in Jesus Christ does all this make sense and by the guidance of the Holy Spirit will we know the way to go. Say this prayer and receive a new life..
Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. Your Word says, “Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Acts 2:21). I am calling on You. I pray and ask Jesus to come into my heart and be Lord over my life, according to Romans 10:9-10—”If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” I do that now. I confess that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead.
I am now reborn! I am a Christian—a child of Almighty God! I am saved! You also said in Your Word, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” (Luke 11:13). I am also asking You to fill me with the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, rise up within me as I praise God. I fully expect to speak with other tongues as You give me utterance (Acts 2:4).
The prayer was obtained from the Kenneth Copeland Ministries.
